Law school life in October can become pretty mundane. At this point, most students have adjusted to the workload despite its increase with midterms and extracurricular activities. People start functioning on autopilot to get their work done and become less concerned with social activities. However, the Student Bar Association (our student government), the Public Service Fund, and other student organizations make sure to continually provide the students with fun activities to ensure we don’t forget to stay happy and balanced. This month alone various organizations have held a formal dance, a canoe trip, a paintball event, a Halloween party, and more! My favorite event so far this month has been the Fall Formal.
This is a formal dance sponsored by the Student Bar Association put on at a banquet hall nearby. You may be thinking this sounds similar to a high school dance. That is because it is similar! People joke about the strange similarities between high school and law school: we have school lockers, we have a small cafeteria, and we have a school dance! Don’t worry- those are where the similarities end.
Before the dance, my roommates and I had a people over to get ready for the dance. We arrived at the dance and almost everyone from the law school was there. It was nice to see everyone all dressed up, and it was nice to be together outside of school, where we spend the majority of our time. There was a DJ, delicious food, drinks, and plenty of dancing. After four hours of socializing, dancing, and letting loose, the night was over. Overall, the dance was a highlight of the month of October. Everyone who went had a great time enjoying the company of the students from the law school. Law students work really hard, but we definitely know how to have a good time!
